This past Sunday I heard a sermon that excited me for the new year. The sermon was taken from varies stories from the life of King David. It was broken down into sections in which the pastor talked about items David held and what each item represents.
1. Crook: God mold us through what he sees behind closed doors. For example, David was a shepherd. God trained David to lead a heard of sheep in the same way he would lead the people of his kingdom. No job is too small, no tasks is too insignificant for God. It might be a plan for you that is behind closed doors. Ready yourself for him to open them. Do you pray for this direction God has for your life?
2. Sling & Stone: You can never meet someone else’s expectations. David fought Goliath with just a sling and stone. The King urged David to wear his amour but David refused-it was not for him. God has made us special and for a specific purpose. Let God guide you on the path You are supposed to be on. Do not feel ashamed if you are different. He has a specific plan for you. Do you pray to God to help you in times when you might have to be Different in order to accomplish his plans?
3. Harp: Heart of Worship and Prayer: “Look inward before outward”. Pray to God that he work with inside your heart. Do not entertain others or worry what they might think of you. Prayer to God from deep within your heart. Before you see the changes, the inside needs to change. God will see the desires of your heart. Do you have a heart of worship?
4. Sword: Courage to defeat the enemy. God has land for you to conquer. Ready your heart with the Word. Go, go and speak it. Are you prepared to go to war?
5. Cup from Bethlehem: Grateful Heart: Be overwhelmed with Gratitude. Do not take for granted for what the Lord has given you. Do you wake up each morning grateful for the things of the Lord?
6. Temple Plans: Kingdom Heart: God instructed David to build a temple. In addition God said that David could not build it himself because he has killed a man. Therefore, David prayed to God for the plans and passed the building onto his son Solomon. The Lord asks us to bear fruit. He wants us to also pass on the works of the Lord on to the next generation. God does not want us to be narrow minded. David did not say, “well if I can’t build the temple myself I will not build it at all”. Instead he prayed for the plans as passed God’s desire onto the next generation. What are you passing to the next generation?
7. Generous Heart: What you have is not yours but the Lords. Give to the lord what is his: Give generously to further his kingdom. This may be through the actual construction of the kingdom and also for the people in which they are in. “What you hold on to- you will lose” “ What you give away- you will keep” “Loving never empties the heart” “Giving never empties the purse” Do you tithe every Sunday? Do you take the time to help those who are in need?
Be Blessed in the New Year!
